The answer

HiPP Dutch Stage 2 is the follow-on formula in HiPP's Dutch organic range, labelled from six months for babies who also eat solid food. Lactose is its only carbohydrate, with no starch, and it adds galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum. It comes in an 800 g tin, one 4.5 g scoop per 30 ml of water, and it matches the German Stage 2 without starch per 100 ml on every row both packs print. HiPP says moving on to a Stage 2 is not required.
Key takeaways
- Labelled from six months, as part of a varied diet, and not to replace breast milk in the first six months.
- Lactose is the only carbohydrate, with no starch, unlike one of HiPP's two German Stage 2 boxes.
- Per 100 ml it has 1.0 mg of iron, where the Dutch Stage 1 has 0.50 mg.
- It matches the German Stage 2 without starch on every row both packs print, and the UK Follow On Milk on all but vitamin B2.
What is in HiPP Dutch Stage 2?
The base is organic skimmed milk and an organic whey product, and lactose is the only carbohydrate, with no starch; the front of the tin says so.2
The fat is organic palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil, with fish oil for DHA at 13.6 mg per 100 ml, and HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides, a prebiotic, and the lactic culture Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716.2

Values from HiPP's label for the Netherlands, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for follow-on formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.
Every value is the one HiPP prints for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 13.4 g of powder in 90 ml of water. Beside the Dutch Stage 1 it has twice the iron and more calcium.210

How do you prepare it?
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.5 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; the tin says to make each bottle just before the feed, give it within half an hour and never reuse what is left.2
| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.5 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 13.5 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 18.0 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 22.5 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 27.0 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 31.5 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
One scoop is 4.5 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- Kook vers drinkwater en laat het afkoelen tot ongeveer 40°-50°C*
- Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- *Om de natuurlijke melkzuurbacteriën niet te beschadigen, is het raadzaam het melkpoeder niet met kokend water te overgieten.
- So as not to damage the natural lactic cultures, do not pour boiling water on the powder.
- Gebruik altijd 1 maatlepel (4,5 g) voor 30 ml water.
- Always use one scoop (4.5 g) for every 30 ml of water.
How much should a baby drink?
| Made-up bottle | Boiled water | Scoops |
|---|---|---|
| 170 ml | 150 ml | 5 |
| 200 ml | 180 ml | 6 |
| 235 ml | 210 ml | 7 |
The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 5 of these a day.
The tin gives bottle sizes rather than ages, and says each new solid meal, once fully introduced, replaces one of them.2
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
The tin says it must not replace breast milk in the first six months, and is only for babies at least six months old as part of a varied diet; it asks parents to check with their doctor whether a baby is ready.2
HiPP says moving on through its stages is possible but not required, and the NHS says switching to follow-on formula at six months brings no benefit.76
It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free.26

We absolutely LOVE HiPP and have been using it for our son since he was born, starting with Stage 1. It is the best formula we have tried and love Stage 2 just as much. Formuland has also been a wonderful supplier for us. We have had a great experience and plan to use HiPP again when we have our next child.
Questions parents ask
Do I have to move from Dutch Stage 1 to Stage 2 at six months?
No. HiPP says moving on is possible but not required, and the NHS finds no benefit in switching to follow-on formula at six months.
What is the difference between HiPP Dutch Stage 1 and Stage 2?
Stage 2 is a follow-on formula: per 100 ml it has twice the iron and more calcium, and a little more energy, and it takes a 4.5 g scoop instead of 4.3 g. Both have lactose as their only carbohydrate and the same culture.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 2 the same as the German Stage 2?
It matches the German Stage 2 without starch on every row both packs print, with the same scoop and dilution; the other German Stage 2 adds starch. The Dutch tin holds more, an 800 g tin against a 600 g box, and is printed in Dutch and French where the German box is in German, so the preparation panels read differently though the method is the same.
Can HiPP Dutch Stage 2 be given before six months?
No. The tin says it must not replace breast milk in the first six months, and is only for babies at least six months old as part of a varied diet; ask your doctor whether your baby is ready.
How many scoops of HiPP Dutch Stage 2 for a bottle?
One level scoop of 4.5 g for every 30 ml of water. The tin gives three bottles, 5 scoops in 150 ml, 6 in 180 ml and 7 in 210 ml, and says babies need about 5 meals a day.
How long does an opened tin last?
HiPP says a well-closed opened tin keeps for 3 weeks in a dry place at room temperature, counted from the day you open it.
Is HiPP Dutch Stage 2 approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this tin is made for the Dutch market, printed in Dutch and French. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.
Why does the tin say 40 to 50 °C?
So as not to damage the lactic cultures, the tin says. The CDC's advice to use water of around 70 °C is for babies under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system; a baby on Stage 2 is past that age, but ask your pediatrician if yours was born early or is unwell.
Is the tin printed in English?
No. It is printed in Dutch and French for the Netherlands and Belgium, so this page sets the key lines of its preparation panel out in English.
