The answer

HiPP 3 Bio Combiotik 800 g tin, Dutch label, front
Front of the pack

HiPP Dutch Stage 3 is the last follow-on formula in HiPP's Dutch organic range, labelled from ten months for babies on a varied diet. Lactose is its only carbohydrate, with no starch, and it has less energy per 100 ml than Stage 2, made with a smaller 4 g scoop to 30 ml of water. It adds galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum, in an 800 g tin. HiPP says moving on through the stages is not required, so a baby can stay on Stage 2.

Key takeaways

  • Labelled from ten months as a follow-on milk, part of a varied diet.
  • Lactose is the only carbohydrate, where the German Stage 3 adds starch.
  • Per 100 ml it has 60 kcal, where Stage 2 has 68 kcal, and it takes a 4 g scoop.
  • An older print of the tin, in the partner retailer's photos, says from the twelfth month and calls itself a growing-up milk; its values are the same.

What is in HiPP Dutch Stage 3?

The base is organic skimmed milk, with no whey product, and lactose is the only carbohydrate, with no starch; the front of the tin says so.41

The fat is organic palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil, with fish oil for DHA at 12 mg per 100 ml, and HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides, a prebiotic, and the lactic culture Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716.4

Values from HiPP's label for the Netherlands, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for follow-on formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on the tin for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 11.9 g of powder in 90 ml of water. Beside Stage 2 it has less energy, fat and DHA and a little more protein.411

How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; the tin says to give it within half an hour and never reuse what is left.4

One scoop is 4 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 5 of these a day.

The tin gives the same three bottles as Stage 2, with no ages against them, and says each new solid meal replaces one.411

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The tin says it is only for babies at least ten months old, as part of a varied diet, and must not replace breast milk in the first six months.4

HiPP says moving on through its stages is possible but not required, and the NHS says a first formula can stay the main drink through the first year. From twelve months, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises whole cow's milk for most children.879

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free.47

HiPP makes a separate range for each market. The UK Growing Up Milk is close to this tin without matching it: the UK tin prints a little less saturated fat, a little more monounsaturated fat and linoleic acid, vitamin C at 9.2 mg against 9.0 mg here, and folate where this tin prints folic acid.14 HiPP UK labels that one from twelve months and lists no culture, and the German Stage 3 adds starch.1213

Cow's milk caused my daughter awful eczema, but this toddler milk was super gentle on her system.

My daughter entered the 'selective eating' phase the second she turned one and barely touches her dinner. This Stage 3 milk gives me total peace of mind that she’s still getting her calcium and iron while refusing her vegetables

Questions parents ask

When can a baby start HiPP Dutch Stage 3?

From ten months, the tin says, as part of a varied diet; it is not to replace breast milk in the first six months, and the tin asks you to check with your doctor that your baby is ready.

Why does my tin say from the twelfth month and groeimelk?

It is an older print of the same product. The partner retailer's photos show both: the current tin says from ten months and opvolgmelk, the older one from the twelfth month and groeimelk, yet calls itself an organic follow-on milk on the back. Every value this site can read is the same on both, and HiPP's Dutch page shows the current tin, labelled from ten months.

What is the difference between HiPP Dutch Stage 2 and Stage 3?

Stage 3 has less energy, fat and DHA per 100 ml, a little more protein, and a little less iron and calcium; it has no whey product in its ingredients and takes a 4 g scoop against 4.5 g. The three bottle sizes are the same.

Is HiPP Dutch Stage 3 the same as the German Stage 3?

No. The German Stage 3 adds starch and has more energy per 100 ml, and it is labelled from the tenth month of life, which begins at nine months. Both are follow-on formulas with the same culture.

Does my baby need Stage 3?

Nothing says so. HiPP says moving on through its stages is possible but not required, and the NHS says a first formula can stay the main drink through the first year.

How many scoops of HiPP Dutch Stage 3 for a bottle?

One level scoop of 4 g for every 30 ml of water, the tin says, with each bottle made fresh and given within half an hour.

Is HiPP Dutch Stage 3 approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this tin is made for the Dutch market, printed in Dutch and French. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.

What comes after HiPP Dutch Stage 3?

In the Netherlands HiPP sells a Junior growing-up milk, which its site labels from two years. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises whole cow's milk from twelve months for most children and calls toddler formulas unnecessary, so ask your pediatrician before you buy one.

Corrections (1)
  • The page had said this tin matches the UK Growing Up Milk on every row but vitamin C. That holds for HiPP UK's product page, which this site's UK record followed, but not for the UK tin in the photographs added on 15 October 2026: it prints a little less saturated fat, a little more monounsaturated fat and linoleic acid, and folate where this tin prints folic acid. The page now says the two are close without matching.
