HiPP
The answer
HiPP is a family-owned German maker of organic baby food and infant formula, based in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Bavaria. It dates its first baby food to 1899 and the company to 1932, has farmed organically since 1956, and is run by the family's 4th generation. It makes its formula at Herford in Germany and sells it in 60 countries, with a separate range in each. The United States is not one of them, and milkatlas is not HiPP.

From each country's HiPP website, read 18 September 2026. Stage names are the local ones, and each site's own age labels apply.
Each country's HiPP site lists its own range, with its own names and ages. The Netherlands has no PRE and calls its toddler milk Junior; the UK names its formulas First Infant Milk and Follow On Milk rather than by number.78910
The German, Dutch and Austrian ranges are made to the same EU rules for infant formula, so a recipe can differ between countries and still meet them: the German Stage 1 adds a little starch, and the Dutch Stage 1 has none.13
Outside Europe, HiPP names a local company for each country it supplies, and some of those countries get a range of their own: the Philippines has one labelled by age, and the UAE one printed in English and Arabic. HiPP names nobody for Australia or New Zealand, so HiPP formula in Australia has always been imported by someone else.15
Is HiPP sold in the United States?
HiPP lists no US market on its own website: in North America it names only Mexico, and its German online shop delivers to Germany and Austria alone.612
The formula American parents buy is imported by sellers, as where to buy HiPP in the United States sets out.6
Has HiPP formula been recalled?
No active recall of HiPP formula in the United States

The UK's food agency published HiPP's recall of a starter pack of ready-made bottles in 2019, because the label did not declare fish oil. The recall page lists every notice, with the batches.14
Questions parents ask
Is HiPP a German company?
Yes. HiPP GmbH & Co. Vertrieb KG is based in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, in Bavaria, and the Hipp family owns and runs it.
Is HiPP organic?
Its formulas and foods are made from organic ingredients under the EU organic regulation, and HiPP has farmed organically since 1956, when the family converted its own farm. Some lines, such as HA and the German toddler milk, carry no Bio in their names on HiPP's own sites, so check the name and the organic mark on the pack you buy.
Where is HiPP formula made?
At Herford, in Germany, HiPP says, where it has made formula since 2016; the packs sold in the Netherlands and the UK say they were made in Germany.
Is HiPP sold in the United States?
Not by HiPP, which lists no US market; the Dutch and German formulas reach American homes through sellers who import them.
Why are the German and Dutch recipes different?
HiPP sells a separate range in each country, with its own recipes, pack sizes and stage names. Both meet the same EU rules for infant formula: the German Stage 1 adds a little starch, for example, while the Dutch Stage 1 has lactose as its only carbohydrate. Whichever you buy, use the scoop and the feeding chart from the pack in your hand, not from another country's.
Who runs HiPP today?
The Hipp family runs it, in its 4th generation, HiPP said in a press release in February 2026, and the company is still family-owned.
Has HiPP ever recalled formula?
Yes, in the UK in 2019, when a starter pack of ready-made bottles did not declare fish oil. In the US an importer, not HiPP, recalled the HiPP formulas it had sold, in 2021. The recall page lists every notice, with the batches.
Does HiPP own farms?
The family converted its own farm to organic farming in 1956, and HiPP says around 8000 organic farmers now supply it.
How many countries does HiPP sell in?
HiPP said in 2024 that it sells in 60 countries, each with a range of its own, and its website lists the national sites and contacts country by country.
Is milkatlas connected to HiPP?
No. milkatlas is not HiPP and is not endorsed by it. It earns money by selling HiPP formula through its partner retailer and by referring readers to other sellers, as the disclosure page explains in full.
