The answer

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 is HiPP's organic infant formula made from goat's milk in the Netherlands, labelled from birth. Its protein comes from goat's milk and goat's milk powder, with no added whey, lactose is its only carbohydrate, and it adds galacto-oligosaccharides but no lactic culture. It comes in a 400 g tin, with one 4.3 g scoop per 30 ml of water. The tin warns that goat's milk proteins are similar to cow's milk proteins, so it is not for a cow's milk protein allergy.
Key takeaways
- Organic infant formula from goat's milk, labelled from birth as the only food or alongside breast milk.
- Not for a baby with a cow's milk protein allergy or a suspected one: the tin says the proteins are similar.
- Galacto-oligosaccharides but no lactic culture, unlike HiPP's Dutch Bio Combiotik tins.
- The NHS says goat's milk formula is made to the same standards as cow's milk formula and is not less likely to cause allergies.
What is in HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1?
The Dutch ingredient list starts with goat's milk and lactose, then organic palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil and goat's milk powder, with no whey; the French list on the same tin, like HiPP's German goat's milk box, calls both milks skimmed.29
Fish oil adds DHA at 13.2 mg per 100 ml, and HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides from organic lactose; there is no lactic culture. The milks, lactose, oils and galacto-oligosaccharides are all marked organic.2

Values from HiPP's label for the Netherlands, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for infant formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.
Every value is the one printed on HiPP's label for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 12.9 g of powder in 90 ml of water. Per 100 ml it has 67 mg of calcium, where the Dutch Stage 1 has 51 mg.2

How do you prepare it?
Sterilise the bottle, teat and ring, boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, then add one level scoop (4.3 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; the tin says to make each bottle just before the feed and never reuse what is left.2
| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.3 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 12.9 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 17.2 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 21.5 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 25.8 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 30.1 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
One scoop is 4.3 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- Kook vers drinkwater en laat het afkoelen tot ongeveer 40°-50°C.
- Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- Gebruik altijd 1 maatlepel (4,3 g) voor 30 ml water.
- Always use one scoop (4.3 g) for every 30 ml of water.
- Overgebleven melk niet opnieuw gebruiken.
- Do not reuse leftover milk.
How much should a baby drink?
| Age | Feeds a day | Water per feed | Scoops | Water a day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1 to 2 | 7 to 8 | 60 ml | 2 | 420 to 480 ml |
| Weeks 3 to 4 | 5 to 7 | 90 ml | 3 | 450 to 630 ml |
| Weeks 5 to 8 | 5 to 6 | 120 ml | 4 | 600 to 720 ml |
| Months 3 to 4 | 5 | 150 ml | 5 | 750 ml |
| Month 5 | 4 to 5 | 180 ml | 6 | 720 to 900 ml |
| From month 6 | 4 | 210 ml | 7 | 840 ml |
HiPP's own chart from the pack; water a day is feeds times water per feed. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.
The chart runs from the first week to six months and after, the same as the Dutch Stage 1's, and the tin says solid food can start from the fifth month, in consultation with your doctor.2
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
The tin says it is for babies from birth, as the only food or alongside breast milk, and asks parents to consult their doctor before deciding to bottle-feed.2
It carries a warning in bold: it contains proteins similar to those of cow's milk and must not be used when a cow's milk protein allergy exists or is suspected. HiPP's site for health professionals says the same.28

HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 worked beautifully for Riven, who had trouble with regular cow’s milk formula.
Questions parents ask
Can HiPP goat's milk formula be used for a cow's milk allergy?
No. The tin says in bold that it contains proteins similar to those of cow's milk and must not be used when a cow's milk protein allergy exists or is suspected. The NHS says the same of goat's milk formulas.
Is goat's milk formula easier to digest?
HiPP says so on its site for health professionals, citing laboratory digestion studies; the tin itself makes no digestion claim. The NHS says goat's milk formula is made to the same nutritional standards as cow's milk formula and is not less likely to cause allergies.
What does A2 mean on HiPP goat's milk formula?
The tin says goat's milk is naturally high in A2 beta-casein, one form of a milk protein. HiPP's site for health professionals links it to better tolerability; that is HiPP's claim, and the tin makes none.
How is HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 different from the Dutch Stage 1?
The milk and the culture: goat's milk with no added whey, where the Dutch Stage 1 is skimmed cow's milk with a whey product, and galacto-oligosaccharides without the culture L. fermentum. The tin holds 400 g against 800 g, and has more calcium per 100 ml. Both are organic, both are labelled from birth, and the feeding chart is the same.
Is HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 organic?
Yes. The tin carries the EU organic logo and the Dutch EKO mark, and its milks, lactose, oils and galacto-oligosaccharides are all marked as organic.
Why does the tin ask for cooled water when there is no culture?
The tin asks for 40 to 50 °C and gives no reason; on HiPP's tins with a culture, the reason given is to protect it. The CDC advises water of around 70 °C for young babies, so ask your pediatrician which to follow.
Is HiPP Dutch Goat Stage 1 approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this tin is made in Germany for the Dutch market, printed in Dutch and French. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.
How long does an opened tin last?
HiPP says an opened tin, closed well, keeps for 3 weeks in a cool and dry place at room temperature.
