The answer

HiPP Junior Combiotik 800 g tin, Dutch label, front
Front of the pack

HiPP Dutch Junior is HiPP's growing-up milk in the Netherlands, a milk-based drink for young children that HiPP's Dutch site labels from two years. It is not organic, unlike HiPP's Dutch Stage 1 to 3, and is made from skimmed milk, lactose and vegetable oils, with galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum. HiPP recommends 300 to 330 ml a day from a cup. The NHS says children aged one to five do not need formula milks, growing-up milks included.

Key takeaways

  • A milk-based drink for young children by its legal name, labelled from two years on HiPP's Dutch site; the current tin prints no age.
  • Not organic, unlike HiPP's Dutch Stage 1 to 3.
  • It matches the German Kindermilch 2+ on every row both packs print, made with a smaller scoop to less water, and prints four rows the German box leaves out.
  • The NHS says children from one to five do not need formula milks, and the American Academy of Pediatrics calls toddler formulas unnecessary for most.

What is in HiPP Dutch Junior?

It is not organic: no Bio in the name, no EU organic logo and no organic ingredient, where HiPP's Dutch Stage 1 to 3 are organic.5

Values from HiPP's label for the Netherlands, checked 18 September 2026. EU law sets no composition for formula for young children, so there is no range to set it beside. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on the tin for 100 ml, made from 10.7 g of powder in 90 ml of water. The tin gives sugars rather than lactose; lactose is the only sugar in its ingredients.5

How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into a cup and add one level scoop (3.6 g) for every 30 ml. Stir and check the temperature; the tin says to make it just before the meal and drink it within half an hour.5

One scoop is 3.6 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

How much should a baby drink?

Bottle sizes and scoops
Made-up bottleBoiled waterScoops

200 ml180 ml6

The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table.

HiPP recommends 300 to 330 ml a day, from a cup, as part of a meal, with a sandwich or in muesli, or as a snack.5

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

It is for toddlers, as part of a varied diet; HiPP's Dutch site labels it from two years.15

The NHS says children aged one to five do not need formula milks, growing-up milks included; the American Academy of Pediatrics calls toddler formulas unnecessary for most children; and the European Food Safety Authority found young-child formula no more necessary than a normal diet.867

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil, so it is not for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy.5

Questions parents ask

Does a toddler need HiPP Dutch Junior?

Most do not. The NHS says children aged one to five do not need formula milks, growing-up milks included, and the American Academy of Pediatrics calls toddler formulas unnecessary for most children, offering no benefit over cow's milk. Ask your pediatrician if your child eats very little.

From what age is HiPP Dutch Junior?

From two years, HiPP's Dutch site says. The current tin prints no age, though an older print, with a 4 on the front, said from two years too.

Is HiPP Dutch Junior the same as the German Kindermilch 2+?

They match per 100 ml on every row both packs print, with the same dilution of 10.7 g of powder in 90 ml of water. The Dutch tin uses a 3.6 g scoop to 30 ml, the German box a 5.4 g scoop to 45 ml, so use the scoop from the pack in your hand.

Is HiPP Dutch Junior organic?

No. Its name carries no Bio, the tin has no EU organic logo, and no ingredient is marked organic, unlike HiPP's Dutch Stage 1 to 3.

How much HiPP Dutch Junior should a child drink?

HiPP recommends 300 to 330 ml of milk a day, from a cup, as part of a meal or as a snack, and says a child need not finish the cup.

Is it the same as HiPP Dutch Stage 4?

It is the same line under an older name: an earlier print carried a 4 on the front, with a slightly different recipe, and some sellers still call it Stage 4. The current tin prints no number, and its values are the ones on this page.

What is in HiPP Dutch Junior?

Skimmed milk, lactose and palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil, then galacto-oligosaccharides, fish oil for DHA and the culture L. fermentum, with added vitamins and minerals; there is no whey and no starch.

Is HiPP Dutch Junior sold in the United States?

Not by HiPP. It is made for the Dutch market, printed in Dutch and French, and the sellers that offer it in the US import it.
