The answer

HiPP 1 Organic Combiotic 800 g box, English export label, front
Front of the pack

You cannot order this through milkatlas in the United States. The sellers below ship it there.

HiPP International Stage 1 is HiPP Austria's English-language export box of its organic Combiotic infant formula, made in Germany and listed by HiPP in Lithuania and Latvia. Despite the 1 on the box, its recipe is the German PRE's, value for value: lactose is its only carbohydrate, with no starch, and it adds galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum. It comes in an 800 g box, one 4.3 g scoop per 30 ml of water, and matches the Dutch Stage 1 per 100 ml too.

Key takeaways

  • An English-only export box from HiPP Austria, made in Herford, Germany, with no local distributor or service line.
  • Its recipe is the German PRE's, value for value, not the German Stage 1's, which adds starch.
  • On every value this site records it also matches the Dutch Stage 1 per 100 ml.
  • The box claims clinical proof for its culture and galacto-oligosaccharides; the two trials it cites tested only the culture.

Values from HiPP's label for its export range, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for infant formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on the box for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 12.9 g of powder in 90 ml of water. On every value this site records it matches the German PRE and the Dutch Stage 1.367

How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.3 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; the box says never to warm it in the microwave, and to use an opened sachet within 3 weeks.3

One scoop is 4.3 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

Boil fresh drinking water and allow it to cool down to approx. 40-50 °C*.

*in order not to harm the natural lactic acid cultures (lactobacilli), please do not prepare the formula with water that is too hot.

HiPP's own chart from the pack; water a day is feeds times water per feed. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.

The chart has the same rows as the German PRE's, and the box says baby food can start from the fifth month after talking to the pediatrician, each new meal replacing a bottle.36

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The box says it is for babies from birth, as the only food or alongside breast milk, following breastfeeding or any other infant formula, and asks parents to consult their hospital or pediatrician before giving infant formula.3

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free.310

1 review of this product, gathered from the sellers' own review pages, all of them counted in the rating. The newest are below as their buyers wrote them, each showing where it was written and linking to it; a review is one buyer's experience, not evidence. Questions parents ask

Is HiPP International Stage 1 the same as the German PRE?

By its label, yes: every value in its table and every ingredient, in the same order, match HiPP's German PRE, with lactose as the only carbohydrate and the same 4.3 g scoop and feeding chart. The export box holds 800 g against 600 g, is printed in English, and adds a badge the German box does not carry.

Why is it called Stage 1 if it is the PRE recipe?

HiPP's export and Dutch ranges call their first formula 1, while Germany calls the lactose-only recipe PRE and gives the name 1 to a formula with starch. This box has no starch.

Is it a Lithuanian formula?

No. Every panel is in English, and the box names HiPP Austria as exporter and a producer in Herford, Germany, with no distributor or service line for any country. HiPP's Lithuanian and Latvian sites list it, which is why sellers call it the Lithuanian box.

What do the trials cited on the box show?

The box cites two 2012 trials, by Maldonado and by Gil-Campos. In both, every baby had a formula with galacto-oligosaccharides and only the added L. fermentum was tested; babies given the culture had fewer gastrointestinal infections. Neither trial tested the galacto-oligosaccharides, which the badge names too.

Does it contain a probiotic?

It adds the lactic culture L. fermentum, which HiPP says was first taken from breast milk, beside galacto-oligosaccharides, and asks for water at 40 to 50 °C so as not to harm the culture.

How many scoops for a bottle?

One level scoop of 4.3 g for every 30 ml of water; the feeding chart on this page gives each bottle by age.

Is HiPP International Stage 1 approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made in Germany for HiPP's export range. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.

Where can I buy it in the US?

milkatlas does not sell it. The seller this site tracks is listed on this page, with the price it showed on the day it was read.
