The answer

HiPP Kindermilch Combiotik 1+ 600 g box, German label, front
Front of the pack

HiPP Kindermilch 1+ is HiPP's toddler milk in Germany, a milk drink for children from one year, made to be drunk from a cup. Unlike HiPP's German formulas it is not organic; it is made from skimmed milk, lactose and vegetable oils, with galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum. HiPP recommends 300 ml a day, made up with a 5.7 g scoop to 45 ml of water. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the NHS say most toddlers do not need a toddler milk.

Key takeaways

  • A milk drink for young children from one year, by the name on the box; not an infant or follow-on formula.
  • Not organic: no Bio in the name, no EU organic logo, unlike HiPP's German Stage 1 to 3.
  • HiPP recommends 300 ml a day, from a cup, warm or cold.
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics advises whole cow's milk from twelve months, and the NHS says children from one to five do not need formula milks.

What is in HiPP Kindermilch 1+?

The first ingredients are skimmed milk, lactose and vegetable oils, palm, rapeseed and sunflower, with fish oil for DHA at 8.1 mg per 100 ml. HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides and the lactic culture Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716, the pair it calls Combiotik.2

It is not organic: there is no Bio in the name, no EU organic logo and no organic ingredient, where HiPP's German Stage 1 to 3 are all organic. The box prints glutenfrei, gluten-free, under the ingredients.2

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 18 September 2026. EU law sets no composition for formula for young children, so there is no range to set it beside. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one HiPP prints for 100 ml, made from 11.3 g of powder in 90 ml of water. The box gives sugars rather than lactose, and says the sugars are almost all lactose.2

How do you prepare it?

For a warm drink, boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C. Pour it into a cup, add one level scoop of 5.7 g for every 45 ml, stir and check the temperature. HiPP says it can also be made cold, and that tap water for a cold drink should run until it comes out cold.2

One scoop is 5.7 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

Bottle sizes and scoops

The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 2 of these a day.

HiPP recommends 300 ml a day, as two cups, as part of a meal: at breakfast, in muesli or with dinner.2

Who is it for, and who is it not for?

It is for children from one year, and the box says it can follow any follow-on formula.2

The American Academy of Pediatrics says most toddlers do not need a toddler formula and advises whole cow's milk from twelve months; the NHS says children aged one to five do not need formula milks, growing-up milks included; and the European Food Safety Authority found young-child formula no more necessary than a normal diet.564

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil, so it is not for a child with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy.2

My daughter started refusing milk for a while but actually likes this one. Not sure why, but I’m not questioning it.

Questions parents ask

Does my toddler need HiPP Kindermilch 1+?

Probably not. The American Academy of Pediatrics says most toddlers do not need toddler formula and advises whole cow's milk from twelve months; the NHS says children from one to five do not need formula milks; and the European Food Safety Authority found young-child formula no more necessary than a normal diet. Ask your pediatrician if your child eats very little.

Is HiPP Kindermilch 1+ a formula?

Not in law. The box calls it a milk drink for feeding young children, and EU law does not define young-child formula at all; HiPP's infant and follow-on formulas are made to their own EU rules.

Is HiPP Kindermilch organic?

No. The name carries no Bio, the box has no EU organic logo or control code, and none of the ingredients is marked organic, unlike HiPP's German Stage 1 to 3, which are organic.

How much HiPP Kindermilch 1+ should a toddler drink?

HiPP recommends 300 ml a day, as two cups of 150 ml, as part of a meal: at breakfast, in muesli or with dinner. The box adds that a child does not have to finish the cup.

Can it be made cold?

Yes. HiPP says it can be made warm or cold; for a cold drink made with tap water, it says to run the tap until the water comes out cold.

What is the difference between Kindermilch 1+ and 2+?

The 2+ is for children from two years. Per 100 ml it has a little less energy, fat and protein and more vitamin D, and it takes a smaller scoop; calcium, iron and the ingredients are the same.

Can Kindermilch 1+ follow HiPP Stage 3?

Yes. The box says it can follow any follow-on formula, and HiPP's German Stage 3 is labelled from the tenth month.

Is HiPP Kindermilch 1+ sold in the United States?

Not by HiPP. It is made for the German market with a German label, and the sellers that offer it in the US import it.
