The answer

HiPP German HA 2 is the follow-on formula in HiPP's German HA range, labelled for babies after six months who also eat solid food. Its whey protein is broken down, lactose is its only carbohydrate, and it adds galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture L. fermentum; it is not organic. It comes in a 600 g box, one 4.5 g scoop per 30 ml of water. The box says it is not to replace breast milk before six months, and names breastfeeding or a hydrolysed infant formula as what it follows.
Key takeaways
- Labelled after six months, as part of a mixed diet, after breastfeeding or a hydrolysed infant formula.
- Hydrolysed whey protein, lactose as the only carbohydrate, no starch, not organic.
- Per 100 ml it has 1.0 mg of iron, where HA 1 has 0.60 mg.
- HiPP's current artwork gives a 4.5 g scoop; older boxes print 4.7 g, with the same dilution.
What is in HiPP German HA 2?
The protein is hydrolysed whey protein, which the box calls strongly split, and lactose is the only carbohydrate, with no starch.2
Fish oil adds DHA at 13.6 mg per 100 ml, and HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides, made from organic lactose, and the lactic culture Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716. The formula itself is not organic.2

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for follow-on formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.
Every value is the one HiPP prints for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 13.4 g of powder in 90 ml of water. Beside HA 1 it has more iron and calcium, as follow-on formulas do.210

How do you prepare it?
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.5 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it hard, cool it to about body temperature and check it; HiPP says to make each bottle fresh.2
| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.5 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 13.5 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 18.0 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 22.5 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 27.0 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 31.5 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
One scoop is 4.5 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- Frisches Trinkwasser abkochen und auf ca. 40 - 50 °C abkühlen*.
- Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- Gewünschte Menge abgekochtes Wasser (s. Tabelle) in ein Fläschchen geben.
- Pour the amount of boiled water you need (see the table) into a bottle.
- Empfohlene Pulvermenge (s. Tabelle) abmessen. Messlöffel locker füllen und abstreifen. Pulver zum Wasser geben.
- Measure the powder the table gives. Fill the scoop loosely and level it off. Add the powder to the water.
- Fläschchen verschließen und mehrmals kräftig schütteln.
- Close the bottle and shake it hard several times.
- Auf Trinktemperatur (ca. 37 °C) abkühlen. Temperatur überprüfen.
- Let it cool to drinking temperature, about 37 °C, and check it.
How much should a baby drink?
| Made-up bottle | Boiled water | Scoops |
|---|---|---|
| 170 ml | 150 ml | 5 |
| 200 ml | 180 ml | 6 |
| 235 ml | 210 ml | 7 |
The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 5 of these a day.
The box gives bottle sizes rather than ages, and puts the meals a baby needs in a sentence under the table.2
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
It is for babies after six months who also eat solid food, after breastfeeding or a hydrolysed infant formula, the box says, and not as a breastmilk substitute before six months unless the pediatrician or midwife decides otherwise.2
The box says it must not be used if a baby has, or is suspected of having, a cow's milk protein allergy, like HiPP's other HA boxes; the NHS says a diagnosed baby is prescribed a hypoallergenic formula with fully broken-down protein.26

We’ve had a great experience with HiPP HA formula! The quality is excellent, and I really appreciate the care that goes into its ingredients. My baby has been doing well with it, and I love having a formula option that gives me peace of mind. It mixes easily and has become a great part of our feeding routine. I would definitely recommend it to other parents looking for a high-quality formula!

Gentle on my baby's tummy! Started with Stage Pre, now on Stage 2. Absolutely no regrets.
Questions parents ask
When should a baby move from HA 1 to HA 2?
Not before six months, and not necessarily then. The box says HA 2 follows breastfeeding or a hydrolysed infant formula as part of a mixed diet; whether a baby needs to move on is a question for the pediatrician who suggested HA in the first place. Nothing on the HA 1 box sets an age at which it stops.
Can HiPP HA 2 be used for a cow's milk protein allergy?
No. The box says it must not be used if a baby has, or is suspected of having, a cow's milk protein allergy, like HiPP's other HA boxes; a diagnosed baby needs a formula the pediatrician chooses.
Does HiPP HA 2 prevent allergies?
The evidence does not show that it does: ESPGHAN found in 2024 not enough of it to recommend a hydrolysed formula for preventing cow’s milk allergy.
How many scoops of HiPP HA 2 for a bottle?
One level scoop of 4.5 g for every 30 ml of water. The box gives three bottles, 5 scoops in 150 ml, 6 in 180 ml and 7 in 210 ml, and says babies need about 5 meals a day.
Why does my box say 4.7 g for a scoop?
It is an older print. HiPP's current artwork, from April 2025, gives 4.5 g; both prints give the same dilution and the same one scoop to 30 ml, so use the scoop in your box.
Is HiPP HA 2 organic?
No. The galacto-oligosaccharides are made from organic lactose, the box says, but the formula itself carries no Bio in its name and no EU organic logo.
Is HiPP HA 2 approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made for the German market. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States, and the box has no US nutrition facts panel.
How long does an opened box last?
HiPP says to close the bag well, keep it dry at room temperature, and use it within 3 weeks of opening.
