The answer

HiPP German Anti-Reflux is a food for special medical purposes, from birth, which the box says is for the dietary management of frequent spitting up and regurgitation. It keeps intact cow's milk protein and lactose as its only carbohydrate, and is thickened with locust bean gum, so each bottle stands for seven minutes before the feed. It adds the culture L. fermentum and is not organic. The box says to use it only after talking to the pediatrician, and the NHS advises anti-reflux formula only on a health professional's advice.
Key takeaways
- A food for special medical purposes, from birth, to be used only after talking to the pediatrician.

- Intact cow's milk protein, lactose as the only carbohydrate, the culture L. fermentum and no galacto-oligosaccharides.
- Not for a baby who has, or is suspected of having, a cow's milk protein allergy, the box says.
What is in HiPP German Anti-Reflux?

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 15 October 2026. As a food for special medical purposes it is made to Regulation (EU) 2016/128, which lets its recipe depart from the ranges for infant formula where its medical use requires. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.
Every value is the one HiPP prints for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 12.9 g of powder in 90 ml of water. Older boxes print a little less calcium, 51 mg; HiPP's current artwork and the box photographed here give 54 mg.239

How do you prepare it?
Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.3 g) for every 30 ml, then shake it hard.2
Let the bottle stand for seven minutes while the locust bean gum thickens the feed, shake it hard again, and check it is at drinking temperature before the feed.2
| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.3 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 12.9 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 17.2 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 21.5 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 25.8 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 30.1 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
One scoop is 4.3 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

HiPP's own chart from the pack; water a day is feeds times water per feed. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.
The chart runs from the first week, and the box calls its amounts guidelines.2
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
The box says it is for the dietary management of frequent spitting up and regurgitation, under medical supervision, from birth as the only food and after six months as part of a mixed diet, and in bold to use it only after talking to the pediatrician and only as long as the symptoms need.2
It must not be used if a baby has, or is suspected of having, a cow's milk protein allergy.2

Questions parents ask
What is HiPP Anti-Reflux for?
The box says it is for the dietary management of frequent spitting up and regurgitation in babies, under medical supervision, from birth as the only food and after six months as part of a mixed diet.
How do you make up HiPP Anti-Reflux?
Like HiPP's other German formulas, with water boiled and cooled to 40 to 50 °C and one level scoop for every 30 ml, shaken hard. Then comes the difference: let the bottle stand for seven minutes to thicken, shake it again, and check it is at drinking temperature.
What thickens HiPP Anti-Reflux?
Locust bean gum, a thickener made from carob seeds; the box calls the feed especially thick and creamy, and it needs seven minutes to set.
Does HiPP Anti-Reflux stop reflux?
HiPP says it is thickened for babies who spit up a lot and that a baby should feel better within a few days, and to see the pediatrician again if not. The NHS describes anti-reflux formula as thickened with the aim of preventing reflux, to be used on a health professional's advice.
Does the thicker feed need a different teat?
The box gives no advice on teats. If the thickened feed does not flow well, ask your pediatrician or midwife before changing anything.
Can HiPP Anti-Reflux be used for a cow's milk allergy?
No. The box says not to use it if a baby has, or is suspected of having, a cow's milk protein allergy; its protein is intact cow's milk protein.
Why does the NHS warn about anti-reflux formula and water temperature?
Some anti-reflux formulas are made up with cooler water than the usual 70 °C so they do not go lumpy, and the NHS points out that powdered formula is not sterile and cooler water will not kill any harmful bacteria in it. HiPP's box asks for 40 to 50 °C, so take extra care and ask your pediatrician.
Is HiPP Anti-Reflux approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made for the German market. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.
Is HiPP Anti-Reflux organic?
No. The box carries no Bio in its name and no EU organic logo, and none of its ingredients is marked organic.

Corrections (1)
- The nutrition table had left out three rows that the box and HiPP's artwork both print: salt, 0.05 g per 100 ml, chromium, less than 0.60 µg, and molybdenum, 0.58 µg. They are now in the table. Every other row matches the box in the photographs added on 15 October 2026, the current print, with the 54 mg of calcium HiPP's artwork gives.
