## The answer

*Front of the pack*

Catalogue entry. No seller we track ships it to the markets we cover.

HiPP UK First Infant Milk ready to feed is HiPP's organic first milk, already mixed and sealed in a 200 ml bottle, labelled from birth and sold by the case of six. Its article number is GB2227-04, and it holds the recipe HiPP's German PRE bottle carried under the same number without the country letters, until HiPP changed the German bottle in 2026 to add taurine and more magnesium.

## Key takeaways

- HiPP's organic first milk, ready to drink in a 200 ml bottle, labelled from birth and made in Germany.
- Article GB2227-04: the German PRE bottle's recipe before HiPP's 2026 German print, which raised magnesium and added taurine.
- HiPP UK allows it at room temperature, and so does the 2026 German print; both forbid the microwave.
- No fish oil, so HiPP UK calls it suitable for vegetarians and the allergen line names milk alone.
- Its feeding guide runs to twelve months and pairs each age with a weight, which the German chart does not.

## What is in HiPP UK First Infant Milk ready to feed?

Organic whey product, organic skimmed milk and organic cream come first, then organic lactose, organic sunflower and rapeseed oils, galacto-oligosaccharides from organic lactose and a lecithin emulsifier. (Source 1)

That was the German PRE ready-to-feed bottle's list too, in German, until HiPP's 2026 print added a whey powder product and taurine to it. The German article number moved on with the recipe, to 2227-05, while this bottle's is still GB2227-04. (Source 1) (Source 2)

There is no lactic culture and no fish oil. HiPP UK calls the milk suitable for vegetarians, and its allergen line names milk alone. (Source 1)

*The start of the ingredients list as printed on the label; the list runs on down the bottle.*

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

HiPP UK describes the bottle as complete nutrition in a ready-prepared bottle, and marks the completeness claim as one the law requires. Those are HiPP's words for its own product. (Source 1)

Values from HiPP's product page for the United Kingdom, checked 21 September 2026. The last column is the range for infant formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. HiPP gives values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

HiPP UK prints these for 100 ml of the milk as poured. Against the German PRE bottle's 2026 print, every row both labels print matches except magnesium, 4.5 mg here against 6.0 mg there, and the German label adds taurine. This label adds a linoleic acid row and an alpha-linolenic acid row the German one leaves out. (Source 1) (Source 2)

*The top of the nutrition information on the label, per 100 ml. If the label and this page ever disagree, the label is right and we log a correction.*

Evidence · Regulation

It is sold as an infant formula, so its composition must meet Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, retained in UK law: the ranges in the last column. (Source 3)

## How do you prepare it?

Check the cap, the seal and the best-before date, shake the bottle, and pour what you need into a sterilised feeding bottle. Give it as it is or warm it, but never in a microwave. Finish a poured feed within two hours, and keep the rest of the bottle in the fridge for up to 24 hours. (Source 1)

Nothing is added: the bottle is already at drinking strength. Pour out what you need and give it at room temperature, or warm it and check it first. Keep an opened bottle in the fridge for no longer than 24 hours.

- **Wash hands, sterilise all equipment following manufacturers' instructions.**: The milk is sterile in the bottle; the feeding bottle and teat are not.
- **Milk can be given at room temperature or warmed if desired. If warmed check temperature before feeding.**: The British label allows a cold feed, and so does the German PRE bottle's 2026 print; the print before it asked you to warm it.
- **Do not heat feeds in a microwave, hot spots may occur which could cause scalding.**: A microwave heats unevenly and can leave hot spots that scald, however warm the outside feels.
- **Unused feed in this bottle should be refrigerated immediately (below 5°C) and used within 24 hours.**: What stays in the sealed bottle keeps a day in the fridge; what you pour out does not.

Evidence · Regulation

Milk sealed in the bottle is sterile and powder is not, which is why the CDC's extra preparation steps for a baby under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system are written for powdered formula. (Source 5)

## How much should a baby drink?

**Feeding chart by age**

| Age | Feeds a day | Ready to drink | Milk a day |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Weeks 0 to 2 | 7 to 8 | 70 ml | 490 to 560 ml |
| Weeks 3 to 4 | 5 to 7 | 100 ml | 500 to 700 ml |
| Weeks 5 to 8 | 5 to 6 | 135 ml | 675 to 810 ml |
| Months 2 to 4 | 5 | 170 ml | 850 ml |
| Month 5 | 4 to 5 | 200 ml | 800 to 1000 ml |
| Month 6 | 4 | 235 ml | 940 ml |
| Months 7 to 9 | 4 | 170 ml | 680 ml |
| Months 10 to 12 | 3 | 135 ml | 405 ml |

HiPP's own chart from the pack; milk a day is feeds times the bottle. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.

HiPP UK's guide runs further than the German one, to twelve months, and pairs each age with a typical weight. It also falls after six months, as solid food takes over: 235 ml a feed at about six months, then 135 ml by the end of the first year. (Source 1)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

HiPP UK calls the table a guide only and says a baby should be fed on demand. It is the manufacturer's chart, not a prescription. (Source 1)

## Who is it for, and who is it not for?

It is a first infant milk, labelled from birth, and HiPP UK describes it as a complete breast milk substitute, a claim the law requires it to word that way. A first milk can stay a baby's milk through the whole first year. (Source 1) (Source 4)

It is made from cow's milk and is not lactose-free, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. (Source 1) (Source 4)

Evidence · No evidence found

We found no evidence that a baby does better on ready-to-feed milk than on the same formula made up from powder. The NHS treats the choice as one of convenience and cost, and says ready-to-feed is dearer and has to be used more quickly once opened. (Source 4)

Our view

This is the bottle to buy in Britain. It holds the recipe the German PRE bottle held until 2026, with instructions written for the market you are in, and importing the German print instead means paying freight on water for a recipe that differs by one mineral and taurine.

## Questions parents ask

### Is HiPP UK ready to feed the same as the German one?

Not since HiPP changed the German bottle in 2026. The German print, 2227-05, declares 6.0 mg of magnesium per 100 ml against this bottle's 4.5 mg, and adds taurine and a whey powder product; every other row both labels print matches. A German bottle from the earlier print is the same milk as this one.

### Can I give it at room temperature?

HiPP UK says you can, or warm it if you prefer, and check the temperature first. The German PRE bottle's 2026 print allows it too, where its earlier print said to warm it. Neither allows a microwave.

### How long does an opened bottle keep?

HiPP UK says to refrigerate what is left in the bottle straight away, below 5 °C, and use it within 24 hours. Milk poured into a feeding bottle is a different matter: finish that within two hours, then throw it away.

### Do I still need to sterilise anything?

Yes. HiPP UK's first step is to wash your hands and sterilise the feeding bottle and teat. The milk is sterile until you open it; what you pour it into is not.

### Is it suitable for vegetarians?

HiPP UK says so. Its long-chain fats come from algal oil rather than fish oil, so the allergen line names milk alone.

### How many bottles come in a pack?

Six. HiPP UK sells this bottle by the case rather than singly, and prices it per case, so the smallest order is more than a litre of milk. The importers who ship the German bottles to North America sell by the case too.

### Is there a bigger bottle?

Yes, a 470 ml bottle, for a baby drinking more at a feed. It holds the same milk, ingredient for ingredient and value for value, but its instructions differ in one line: HiPP UK tells you to stand that bottle in warm water and bring it to drinking temperature, where this one may be given cold.

### Where is it made?

Germany, as the label says. So is the German PRE bottle, while the follow-on and growing-up bottles in the same British range are made in Austria.

### Can I take it on a plane?

HiPP UK says the hundred millilitre carry-on limit does not apply to formula milk or baby food, so you may take a reasonable amount for the flight. Airport rules vary, so check with your airline before you pack it.

### Does it have the lactic culture HiPP puts in its powders?

No. The ingredient list has galacto-oligosaccharides and no culture, which is true of every HiPP ready-to-feed bottle we have read, German or British.

**Corrections (1)**

- 25 September 2026 · The page had said this bottle is the German PRE bottle under an English label, value for value, and that the German label asks you to warm the feed. HiPP changed the German bottle in 2026, to article 2227-05: it now declares more magnesium, adds taurine and a whey powder product, and allows a room-temperature feed, and the page now compares this bottle with that print. The preparation note had also told you to warm this bottle to about 40 °C, which its label does not ask; it now says room temperature or warmed, as HiPP UK does. (before publication)
