## The answer

*Front of the pack*

You cannot order this through milkatlas in the United States. The sellers below ship it there.

HiPP German PRE ready to feed is HiPP's organic PRE infant formula, already mixed with water and sealed in a 200 ml bottle. It is labelled from birth, made in Germany, and meant either as the only feed or to top up breastfeeding. Nothing is added: you pour it, give it cold or warmed, and throw away what is left. HiPP changed the recipe in 2026, adding taurine and more magnesium, and unlike the PRE powder the bottle has no lactic culture.

## Key takeaways

- The organic PRE, already at drinking strength in a 200 ml bottle, labelled from birth.
- The 2026 print, article 2227-05, adds taurine and raises magnesium; most other rows match the PRE powder or differ by a rounding step.
- No lactic culture in the ingredient list, though the front says COMBIOTIK: here that means the galacto-oligosaccharides alone.
- No fish oil and no palm oil: the long-chain fats come from algal and Mortierella alpina oil, so the allergen line is milk alone.
- It may be given at room temperature or warmed in a water bath to about 37 °C, never in a microwave; an opened bottle keeps 24 hours in the fridge.

## What is in HiPP German PRE ready to feed?

The list starts with organic whey product, skimmed milk and cream, then lactose, organic sunflower and rapeseed oils and an organic whey powder product, with galacto-oligosaccharides made from lactose and a lecithin emulsifier. Taurine, which the 2026 print marks as new, comes near the end. (Source 2)

There is no lactic culture. The powder PRE lists one and this bottle does not, so the COMBIOTIK on the front stands for the galacto-oligosaccharides alone. (Source 2)

DHA comes from the microalga *Schizochytrium* and arachidonic acid from *Mortierella alpina* oil rather than from fish oil, which is why the allergen line names milk and nothing else. (Source 2)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The front claims strictest quality controls, lactose as the only carbohydrate, and nature and research hand in hand. There is no worded claim for the galacto-oligosaccharides or the DHA: both appear only as figures in the composition panel. Those are HiPP's claims. (Source 2)

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 25 September 2026. The last column is the range for infant formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is printed for 100 ml of the milk as it comes, because there is nothing to make up. HiPP changed the recipe in 2026, marks the sleeve as an improved recipe and flags taurine as new. The figures here are from that print; the correction at the foot of this page gives the one earlier figure that differs. (Source 2)

Against the PRE powder, most rows match or differ by a rounding step. Potassium, vitamin B2, L-carnitine and magnesium differ by more, and the powder prints two fatty acid rows the bottle leaves out. (Source 2) (Source 3)

Evidence · Regulation

The bottle is sold as an infant formula, so its composition must fall within Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, the ranges in the last column. (Source 4)

## How do you prepare it?

Check the cap and the seal film and shake the sealed bottle before you open it. Pour what you need into a feeding bottle and give it at room temperature, or warm the feeding bottle in a water bath to about 37 °C and check it before feeding. Feed it at once and throw away what is left. (Source 2)

Nothing is added: the bottle is already at drinking strength. Pour out what you need and give it at room temperature, or warm it to about 37 °C and check it first. Keep an opened bottle in the fridge for no longer than 24 hours.

- **Die noch versiegelte Flasche vor dem ersten Öffnen kräftig schütteln.**: Shake the still-sealed bottle hard before opening it for the first time.
- **Benötigte Trinkmenge in ein Fläschchen füllen.**: Pour the amount you need into a feeding bottle.
- **Die Nahrung ist trinkfertig und kann entweder bei Raumtemperatur oder nach Erwärmen des Fläschchens in einem Wasserbad auf ca. 37 °C gefüttert werden.**: The feed is ready to drink, and can be given at room temperature or after warming the feeding bottle in a water bath to about 37 °C.
- **Nahrung nicht in der Mikrowelle erhitzen (Verbrühungsgefahr).**: Do not heat the feed in a microwave: it can scald.
- **Geöffnetes, unerwärmtes Fläschchen verschlossen im Kühlschrank (max. 6 °C) aufbewahren und innerhalb von 24h aufbrauchen.**: Keep an opened, unwarmed bottle closed in the fridge at no more than 6 °C and use it within 24 hours.

Evidence · Regulation

Milk sealed in the bottle is sterile, which powder is not. The CDC's extra preparation steps for a baby under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system are written for powdered formula, and it names ready-to-feed formula for emergencies when water cannot be made safe. (Source 5)

## How much should a baby drink?

**Feeding chart by age**

| Age | Feeds a day | Ready to drink | Milk a day |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | 7 to 8 | 70 ml | 490 to 560 ml |
| Weeks 3 to 4 | 5 to 7 | 100 ml | 500 to 700 ml |
| Weeks 5 to 8 | 5 to 6 | 135 ml | 675 to 810 ml |
| Months 3 to 4 | 5 | 170 ml | 850 ml |
| Month 5 | 4 to 5 | 200 ml | 800 to 1000 ml |
| From month 6 | 4 | 235 ml | 940 ml |

HiPP's own chart from the pack; milk a day is feeds times the bottle. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.

The chart gives the bottle itself rather than water and scoops, from 70 ml in the first fortnight to 235 ml from the sixth month. HiPP marks the numbers as guide values that can vary. (Source 2)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The amounts and the number of feeds are HiPP's own guide, and the pack says the first two weeks are as the doctor advises. A hungry or sleepy baby is the better guide. (Source 2)

## Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The bottle says breastfeeding is best, and asks you to talk to your pediatrician or midwife if you want to use an infant formula. HiPP offers it both as the only feed from birth and for topping up. (Source 2)

It is made from cow's milk, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free. (Source 2) (Source 6)

Evidence · No evidence found

We found no evidence that a baby does better on ready-to-feed milk than on the same formula made up from powder. The NHS treats the choice as one of convenience and cost. (Source 6)

Our view

If you are buying this for the night feed or for travelling, buy the bottles. If you are thinking of feeding it all day, price the powder PRE first: the two are close on most rows, and the bottle is the expensive way to buy them.

Great experience with the ready to feed for our newborn. Definitely helpful on those first few weeks when breast milk supply is uncertain.

## Questions parents ask

### What is HiPP PRE ready to feed?

HiPP's organic PRE infant formula, already mixed and sealed in a bottle. You pour it and feed it, at room temperature or warmed; nothing is added.

### Is it the same as the PRE powder?

Close, not the same. Protein reads 1.3 g against the powder's 1.28 g, the liquid printed to one decimal, and lactose is a tenth of a gram higher. Potassium, vitamin B2, L-carnitine and, since 2026, magnesium differ by more; the bottle lists taurine and the powder does not.

### Why is there no lactic culture in it?

HiPP does not say. The powder PRE lists a natural lactic culture and this bottle lists none, although both fronts carry the COMBIOTIK name. On the bottle, Combiotik stands for the galacto-oligosaccharides alone.

### How do I warm it?

You need not: the 2026 print allows it at room temperature. To warm it, pour what you need into a feeding bottle and stand that in a water bath until it reaches about 37 °C, never in a microwave, which heats unevenly and can scald. Check it on your wrist first. A bottle from the earlier print says to warm it, then let it cool.

### How long does an opened bottle keep?

The pack says to keep it closed in the fridge at no more than 6 °C and use it within 24 hours, so long as it has not been warmed. Anything left in the feeding bottle after a feed is thrown away.

### Does it contain fish oil or palm oil?

Neither. Its DHA comes from the microalga Schizochytrium and its arachidonic acid from Mortierella alpina oil, and its vegetable oils are sunflower and rapeseed alone. The powder PRE has both fish oil and palm oil, which is why the two packs declare different allergens: the box names milk and fish, and this bottle names milk only. If fish oil is what you are avoiding, read both lists.

### Is it organic?

Yes. The legal name is organic infant milk formula, and every farmed ingredient in it carries the organic mark in the list.

### Why does the ingredient list not mention water?

We do not know, and it is the one thing on this pack we would ask HiPP about. The liquid Stage 2 and both HA PRE bottles list water in their ingredients; the PRE bottle, read twice, does not.

### Can I feed the baby straight from the bottle it comes in?

The pack does not describe that. It says to pour the amount you need into a feeding bottle, and its hygiene line talks about cleaning the bottle, teat and ring. No teat comes with it.

### Is it approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA approves no infant formula at all, here or anywhere, and this bottle is made in Germany for the German market, with no US nutrition facts panel and no US labelling. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.

**Corrections (1)**

- 25 September 2026 · HiPP changed this bottle in 2026. The new print, article 2227-05 with barcode 4062300484672, declares 6.0 mg of magnesium per 100 ml where the earlier print, 2227-04, declared 4.5 mg, adds taurine at 3.3 mg and a whey powder product, and allows the feed at room temperature or warmed in a water bath to about 37 °C, where the earlier print said to warm it to about 40 °C. The record, the preparation panel and the page now follow the new print. The page had also said eight of ten recorded values match the PRE powder; with the full panels recorded, most rows match and several do not, and it now names them. (before publication)
