## The answer

*Front of the pack*

HiPP German PUR 2 is the follow-on formula in HiPP Germany's newer organic PUR range, labelled after six months alongside solid food. It is made from skimmed milk, lactose, whey product and organic whole milk powder, 19 % of the powder, with sunflower and rapeseed oil and no palm oil. Lactose is its only carbohydrate, with no starch, unlike HiPP's Bio Combiotik 2, and it has neither galacto-oligosaccharides nor a lactic culture. It comes in a 500 g box, one 4.4 g scoop per 30 ml.

## Key takeaways

- A follow-on formula after six months, alongside solid food, not in place of breast milk before then.
- No starch: the box says lactose is its only carbohydrate, where the Bio Combiotik 2 adds starch.
- Per 100 ml it has 1.0 mg of iron, where PUR 1 has 0.56 mg.
- HiPP says moving on from a first formula is possible but not required, and the NHS sees no benefit in switching at six months.

## What is in HiPP German PUR 2?

The ingredient list starts with skimmed milk, lactose and whey product, then organic sunflower and rapeseed oil and organic whole milk powder at 19 %; there is no palm oil, and the box says there is no starch. (Source 2)

Fish oil adds DHA at 13.6 mg per 100 ml, and soy lecithin is the emulsifier. There are no galacto-oligosaccharides and no lactic culture, and unlike PUR 1 no Mortierella alpina oil, the source of arachidonic acid. (Source 2) (Source 7)

*The ingredients as printed on the box, in German. The asterisk marks organic ingredients.*

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box says vitamin C supports the immune system, that DHA contributes to infants' visual development and that ALA is important for brain and nerve cells. Those are HiPP's claims, graded here as the manufacturer's. (Source 2)

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 2 October 2026. The last column is the range for follow-on formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on the box for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 13.2 g of powder in 90 ml of water. The box photographed here prints a little less monounsaturated fat and DHA than HiPP's published artwork, and the table follows the box; every other value is the same on both. Beside the Bio Combiotik 2 it has the same energy, protein, fat and iron, more lactose, no starch and a little less calcium. (Source 2) (Source 11) (Source 2) (Source 8)

*The top of the composition table on the box, per 100 ml. If the box and this page ever disagree, the box is right and we log a correction.*

Evidence · Regulation

PUR 2 is sold as a follow-on formula, so its values must fall within Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, the ranges in the last column. (Source 3)

## How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.4 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; an opened bag keeps for 3 weeks. (Source 2)

**Preparation table**

| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.4 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 13.2 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 17.6 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 22.0 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 26.4 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 30.8 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |

One scoop is 4.4 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- **Frisches Trinkwasser abkochen und auf ca. 40 - 50 °C abkühlen.**: Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- **1 gestrichener Messlöffel = ca. 4,4 g HiPP 2 PUR**: One level scoop is about 4.4 g of HiPP 2 PUR.
- **Nahrung daher vor jeder Mahlzeit frisch zubereiten und sofort füttern. Nahrungsreste nicht wiederverwenden.**: Make each feed fresh and give it straight away. Do not reuse leftovers.

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box asks for cooled water without giving a reason, and PUR has no lactic culture to protect. The CDC advises water of around 70 °C for babies under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system. We state both and defer to your pediatrician. (Source 2) (Source 4)

## How much should a baby drink?

**Bottle sizes and scoops**

| Made-up bottle | Boiled water | Scoops |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 170 ml | 150 ml | 5 |
| 200 ml | 180 ml | 6 |
| 235 ml | 210 ml | 7 |

The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 5 of these a day.

The box gives bottle sizes rather than ages, and says each new solid meal replaces one bottle. (Source 2)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The bottle sizes and the number of meals are HiPP's guide; the box says a baby need not finish the bottle.

## Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The box says it is made for babies after six months alongside solid food, following breastfeeding or any infant formula, and that follow-on formula should not replace breast milk in the first six months unless the pediatrician or midwife advises it. (Source 2)

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil and soy, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free. (Source 2) (Source 5)

Evidence · No evidence found

HiPP's German advice says moving on from a first formula is possible but not required, and the NHS says there is no benefit in switching to a follow-on formula at six months. (Source 6) (Source 5)

Our view

If you want a follow-on formula from six months without starch or palm oil, PUR 2 is HiPP's German box with neither; if you want galacto-oligosaccharides and the culture as well, buy the no-starch Combiotik 2. (Source 10)

## Questions parents ask

### When can a baby start HiPP PUR 2?

After six months, alongside solid food, the box says; follow-on formula should not replace breast milk in the first six months unless the pediatrician or midwife advises it.

### Does a baby on PUR PRE or PUR 1 need to move to PUR 2?

No. HiPP's German advice on switching says moving on from a first formula is possible but not required, and the NHS says there is no benefit in switching to a follow-on formula at six months. PUR 2 has more iron and calcium per 100 ml than PUR 1, and nothing on the PUR 1 box sets an age at which it stops.

### How is PUR 2 different from the Bio Combiotik 2?

PUR 2 has no starch, no palm oil and neither galacto-oligosaccharides nor the culture L. fermentum, and adds whole milk powder. Per 100 ml the two have the same energy, protein, fat and iron.

### Is PUR 2 the same as the Combiotik 2 without starch?

No. Both have no starch, but HiPP's no-starch Combiotik 2 keeps galacto-oligosaccharides, the culture and palm oil, which PUR 2 does not have.

### How many scoops of HiPP PUR 2 for a bottle?

One level scoop of 4.4 g for every 30 ml of water. The box gives three bottles, 5 scoops in 150 ml, 6 in 180 ml and 7 in 210 ml, and says babies need about 5 meals a day, each new solid meal replacing a bottle.

### Does HiPP PUR 2 contain soy?

Yes, as soy lecithin, the emulsifier; the box prints soy in bold among its allergens, with milk and fish oil.

### Is HiPP PUR 2 approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made in Germany for the German market. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States, and the box has no US nutrition facts panel.

### Where can I buy HiPP PUR 2 in the US?

milkatlas does not sell it. The sellers this site tracks are listed on this page, with the price each showed on the day it was read.

11. The partner retailer's photographs of the HiPP 2 PUR box the pack photo, and its ingredients, composition and preparation panels, read on 2 October 2026; the source of the monounsaturated fat and DHA rows, where this box, without the NEU badge HiPP's version 1 artwork carries, prints less than the artwork · fetched 2 October 2026

**Corrections (1)**

- 2 October 2026 · The page had taken every value from HiPP's published artwork for this box (version 1, September 2025), which prints 2.5 g of monounsaturated fat and 14.0 mg of DHA per 100 ml. The box photographed on 2 October 2026, which lacks the NEU badge the artwork carries, prints 2.4 g and 13.6 mg, and every other value is the same on both. The page now follows the box, as it says it will when the two disagree, and the per 100 kcal column with it. (before publication)
