## The answer

*Front of the pack*

You cannot order this through milkatlas in the United States. The sellers below ship it there.

HiPP German PUR 1 is an organic infant formula from HiPP Germany's newer PUR range, labelled from birth. It prints the same ingredient list as PUR PRE, with milk fat partly from organic whole milk powder and no palm oil, but takes a bigger 4.4 g scoop and more powder per 100 ml. Unlike HiPP's Bio Combiotik 1, it has no starch, so lactose is its only carbohydrate, and it has neither galacto-oligosaccharides nor a lactic culture. It comes in a 500 g box.

## Key takeaways

- Labelled from birth, like PUR PRE, with the same ingredient list word for word.
- No starch: lactose is the only carbohydrate, where the Bio Combiotik 1 adds starch.
- Per 100 ml it has 67 kcal, where PUR PRE has 65 kcal.
- Neither galacto-oligosaccharides nor a lactic culture, and no palm oil.

## What is in HiPP German PUR 1?

The ingredient list starts with whey product, then organic sunflower and rapeseed oil, then organic whole milk powder at 18 % and lactose, word for word the list on PUR PRE; there is no skimmed milk and no palm oil. (Source 2) (Source 7)

Fish oil adds DHA at 13.6 mg per 100 ml, Mortierella alpina oil adds arachidonic acid, and soy lecithin is the emulsifier. There are no galacto-oligosaccharides and no lactic culture. (Source 2)

*The ingredients as printed on the box, in German. The asterisk marks organic ingredients.*

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box says PUR 1 is made for babies' particular needs and suits combination feeding, and that PUR stands out for its milk fat from organic whole milk. Those are HiPP's descriptions, graded here as the manufacturer's. (Source 2)

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 18 September 2026. The last column is the range for infant formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on HiPP's artwork for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 13.2 g of powder in 90 ml of water, against 12.6 g for PUR PRE. Beside the Bio Combiotik 1 it has the same energy, more lactose and no starch. (Source 2) (Source 7) (Source 8)

*The top of the composition table on the box, per 100 ml. If the box and this page ever disagree, the box is right and we log a correction.*

Evidence · Regulation

PUR 1 is sold as infant formula, so its values must fall within Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex I, the ranges in the last column. (Source 3)

## How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.4 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; an opened bag keeps for 3 weeks. (Source 2)

**Preparation table**

| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.4 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 13.2 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 17.6 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 22.0 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 26.4 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 30.8 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |

One scoop is 4.4 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- **Frisches Trinkwasser abkochen und auf ca. 40 - 50 °C abkühlen.**: Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- **1 gestrichener Messlöffel = ca. 4,4 g HiPP 1 PUR**: One level scoop is about 4.4 g of HiPP 1 PUR.
- **Nahrung daher vor jeder Mahlzeit frisch zubereiten und sofort füttern. Nahrungsreste nicht wiederverwenden.**: Make each feed fresh and give it straight away. Do not reuse leftovers.

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box asks for cooled water without giving a reason, and PUR has no lactic culture to protect. The CDC advises water of around 70 °C for babies under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system. We state both and defer to your pediatrician. (Source 2) (Source 4)

## How much should a baby drink?

**Feeding chart by age**

| Age | Feeds a day | Water per feed | Scoops | Made-up bottle | Water a day |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | 7 to 8 | 60 ml | 2 | 70 ml | 420 to 480 ml |
| Weeks 3 to 4 | 5 to 7 | 90 ml | 3 | 100 ml | 450 to 630 ml |
| Weeks 5 to 8 | 5 to 6 | 120 ml | 4 | 135 ml | 600 to 720 ml |
| Months 3 to 4 | 5 | 150 ml | 5 | 170 ml | 750 ml |
| Month 5 | 4 to 5 | 180 ml | 6 | 200 ml | 720 to 900 ml |
| From month 6 | 4 | 210 ml | 7 | 235 ml | 840 ml |

HiPP's own chart from the pack; water a day is feeds times water per feed. Babies vary, and a hungry or sleepy baby is a better guide than the table.

The chart is the same as PUR PRE's, and the box says solid food can start from the fifth month after talking to the pediatrician or midwife, each new solid meal replacing a bottle. (Source 2) (Source 7)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The chart is HiPP's guide; the box says every baby is different and need not finish the bottle.

## Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The box says it is for babies from birth, as the only food or alongside breast milk, following breastfeeding or another infant formula, and asks parents to talk to the pediatrician or midwife before using an infant formula. (Source 2)

It is made from cow's milk and contains fish oil and soy, so it is not for a baby with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy, and it is not lactose-free. (Source 2) (Source 5)

Evidence · No evidence found

HiPP's German advice says moving on from a PRE is possible but not required, and the NHS says a first formula can stay the main drink through the first year. (Source 6) (Source 5)

Our view

If your baby is doing well on PUR PRE, stay on it; PUR 1 prints the same ingredient list made up with more powder, and neither box gives a reason to switch.

## Questions parents ask

### What is the difference between PUR 1 and PUR PRE?

The strength. The two boxes print the same ingredient list, age and feeding chart; PUR 1 takes a 4.4 g scoop against 4.2 g and makes each 100 ml from more powder, so it has a little more energy, fat and lactose per 100 ml. Neither box says when to choose one over the other.

### Does HiPP PUR 1 contain starch?

No. Lactose is its only carbohydrate, with no starch, unlike HiPP's Bio Combiotik 1, which adds starch to its lactose.

### Is PUR 1 the next step after PUR PRE?

It does not have to be. Both are labelled from birth, and HiPP's German advice on switching says moving on from a PRE is possible but not required; the next box HiPP names on PUR 1 is PUR 2, after six months.

### Is HiPP PUR 1 a whole milk formula?

Partly. Whole milk powder is its third ingredient, at 18 %, after whey product and vegetable oils, and it is where the milk fat the box advertises comes from.

### Does HiPP PUR 1 contain soy or palm oil?

It contains soy, as soy lecithin, printed in bold among the allergens, and no palm oil: its oils are organic sunflower and rapeseed.

### How many scoops of HiPP PUR 1 for a bottle?

One level scoop of 4.4 g for every 30 ml of water, which the box says is about 13.2 g of powder in 90 ml for 100 ml of feed; the feeding chart gives the bottles by age.

### Is HiPP PUR 1 approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made in Germany for the German market. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States.

### Where can I buy HiPP PUR 1 in the US?

milkatlas does not sell it. The sellers this site tracks are listed on this page, with the price each showed on the day it was read, and a link to each seller's listing.
