## The answer

*Front of the pack*

You cannot order this through milkatlas in the United States. The sellers below ship it there.

HiPP German Goat Stage 2 is HiPP's organic follow-on formula made from goat's milk in Germany, labelled after six months as part of a mixed diet. Its protein comes from skimmed goat's milk and skimmed goat's milk powder, with no whey; lactose is its only carbohydrate, and it adds galacto-oligosaccharides but no lactic culture. Beside the goat PRE it has twice the iron and a 4.5 g scoop, and it is close to the Dutch goat Stage 2 without matching it: eight rows differ, chloride by the most.

## Key takeaways

- A follow-on formula after six months, part of a mixed diet, not in place of breast milk before then.
- Per 100 ml it has 1.0 mg of iron, where the goat PRE has 0.50 mg.
- Close to HiPP's Dutch goat Stage 2 but not the same: of the rows both packs print, eight differ, chloride most of all at 76 mg against 63 mg.
- HiPP says moving on from a first formula is possible but not required.

## What is in HiPP German Goat Stage 2?

The ingredient list starts with skimmed goat's milk and lactose, then organic palm, rapeseed and sunflower oil and skimmed goat's milk powder, with no whey and no cow's milk ingredient. (Source 2)

Fish oil adds DHA at 13.6 mg per 100 ml, and HiPP adds galacto-oligosaccharides from organic lactose, with no lactic culture. Unlike the goat PRE, it adds no Mortierella alpina oil, the source of arachidonic acid. (Source 2)

*The ingredients as printed on the box, in German. The asterisk marks organic ingredients, and the heart the organically farmed palm oil.*

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box says A2 goat's milk proteins are especially valuable for babies' tummies, that DHA contributes to infants' visual development and that ALA is important for brain and nerve cells. Those are HiPP's claims, graded here as the manufacturer's. (Source 2) (Source 7)

Values from HiPP's label for Germany, checked 6 October 2026. The last column is the range for follow-on formula in Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, per 100 kcal unless it says per 100 ml. The label prints values per 100 ml only, so the per 100 kcal column is calculated from them.

Every value is the one printed on HiPP's artwork for 100 ml of made-up feed, which is 13.5 g of powder in 90 ml of water. The Dutch goat Stage 2 is close but not identical: eight of the rows both packs print differ, chloride by the most, and this box prints a linoleic acid row and a sugars row the Dutch tin leaves out. (Source 2) (Source 8)

*The top of the composition table on the box, per 100 ml. If the box and this page ever disagree, the box is right and we log a correction.*

Evidence · Regulation

Stage 2 is sold as a follow-on formula, so its values must fall within Regulation (EU) 2016/127, Annex II, the ranges in the last column; EU law allows goat's milk protein in it, after the European Food Safety Authority found in 2012 that it can be suitable. (Source 3) (Source 6)

## How do you prepare it?

Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to 40 to 50 °C, pour it into the bottle and add one level scoop (4.5 g) for every 30 ml. Shake it, cool it to about body temperature and check it; an opened bag keeps for 3 weeks. (Source 2)

**Preparation table**

| Water | Scoops | Powder | Feed size | Water temp. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 30 ml · 1 fl oz | 1 | 4.5 g | 33 ml · 1.1 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 90 ml · 3 fl oz | 3 | 13.5 g | 100 ml · 3.4 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 120 ml · 4 fl oz | 4 | 18.0 g | 133 ml · 4.5 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 150 ml · 5 fl oz | 5 | 22.5 g | 167 ml · 5.6 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 180 ml · 6 fl oz | 6 | 27.0 g | 200 ml · 6.8 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |
| 210 ml · 7 fl oz | 7 | 31.5 g | 233 ml · 7.9 fl oz | 40 to 50 °C · 104 to 122 °F |

One scoop is 4.5 g, level, not packed. The feed size column is the volume in the bottle after the powder dissolves.

- **Frisches Trinkwasser abkochen und auf ca. 40 - 50 °C abkühlen.**: Boil fresh drinking water and let it cool to about 40 to 50 °C.
- **1 gestrichener Messlöffel = ca. 4,5 g**: One level scoop is about 4.5 g.
- **Nahrung daher vor jeder Mahlzeit frisch zubereiten und sofort füttern. Nahrungsreste nicht wiederverwenden.**: Make each feed fresh and give it straight away. Do not reuse leftovers.

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The box asks for cooled water without giving a reason, and this formula has no lactic culture to protect. The CDC advises water of around 70 °C for babies under two months, born early or with a weakened immune system. We state both and defer to your pediatrician. (Source 2) (Source 4)

## How much should a baby drink?

**Bottle sizes and scoops**

| Made-up bottle | Boiled water | Scoops |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 170 ml | 150 ml | 5 |
| 200 ml | 180 ml | 6 |
| 235 ml | 210 ml | 7 |

The pack gives bottle sizes rather than ages, so this is what it prints and all it prints. How much a child takes varies, and a hungry or sleepy child is a better guide than the table. The pack says a child needs about 5 of these a day.

The box gives bottle sizes rather than ages, and says each new solid meal replaces one bottle. (Source 2)

Evidence · Manufacturer claim

The bottle sizes and the number of meals are HiPP's guide; the box says a baby need not finish the bottle.

## Who is it for, and who is it not for?

The box says follow-on formula should not replace breast milk in the first six months, and should be used after six months as part of a mixed diet unless the pediatrician or midwife advises earlier. It can follow breastfeeding or any infant formula. (Source 2)

It says the formula contains proteins similar to cow's milk proteins and traces of cow's milk, and asks for the pediatrician's agreement before use with an existing or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. (Source 2)

Evidence · No evidence found

HiPP's German advice says moving on from a first formula is possible but not required, and the NHS says there is no benefit in switching to a follow-on formula at six months and that goat's milk formula is not suitable for a baby with a cow's milk allergy. (Source 9) (Source 5)

Our view

A baby doing well on the goat PRE can stay on it; if you do move on, this box and the Dutch goat Stage 2 are the same per 100 ml, so buy whichever costs less per 100 g.

## Questions parents ask

### When can a baby start HiPP German Goat Stage 2?

After six months, as part of a mixed diet, the box says; it should not replace breast milk before then unless the pediatrician or midwife advises it.

### Does a baby on the goat PRE need to move to Stage 2?

No. HiPP's German advice on switching formulas says moving on from a PRE is possible but not required, and the NHS says there is no benefit in switching to a follow-on formula at six months. Stage 2 adds iron and galacto-oligosaccharides, but nothing on the PRE box sets an age at which it stops.

### Can a baby switch to it from another follow-on formula?

The box says it can follow breastfeeding or any infant formula, and that a baby can switch to it from any other follow-on formula.

### Can HiPP German Goat Stage 2 be used for a cow's milk allergy?

Not without the pediatrician. The box says its proteins are similar to cow's milk proteins and that it contains traces of cow's milk, and asks for the pediatrician's agreement before use with an existing or suspected cow's milk protein allergy. The NHS says goat's milk formulas are not suitable for a baby with a cow's milk allergy.

### How many scoops of HiPP German Goat Stage 2 for a bottle?

One level scoop of 4.5 g for every 30 ml of water. The box gives three bottles, 5 scoops in 150 ml, 6 in 180 ml and 7 in 210 ml, and says babies need about 5 meals a day.

### Is HiPP German Goat Stage 2 the same as the Dutch goat Stage 2?

Closely, not exactly. The scoop and the bottle sizes match, and of the rows both packs print, eight differ per 100 ml: chloride most, at 76 mg against 63 mg, then magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin B2 and biotin. The German box names its milk skimmed and sits beside a goat's milk PRE; the Dutch range has a Stage 1 instead.

### Is HiPP German Goat Stage 2 organic?

Yes. The box carries the EU organic logo and HiPP's organic seal, and marks its milks, lactose, oils and galacto-oligosaccharides as organic.

### Is HiPP German Goat Stage 2 approved by the FDA?

No. The FDA does not approve infant formulas, and this box is made in Germany for the German market. No HiPP formula is on the FDA's list of formulas marketed in the United States, and the box has no US nutrition facts panel.
